Hello World

The six words I chose to describe me are kind, smart, quiet, dependable, chill, independent. I try to be kind to others and put myself into their shoes before I assess a situation. I think that the world is filled with negative people and situations so I try to be as kind as possible to balance out the troubles in the world. Smart because I think everyone should believe they’re smart and find ways to make them smarter. Quiet because I tend to be more of a listener than a talker. I think it’s important to be quiet and take in information before voicing an opinion. Dependable because I think it’s nice to be there for other people and vice versa. A lot of people don’t have a dependable person in their life so I like to be that person. I think chill and quiet go hand in hand. I don’t like to do too much on a regular basis. I really enjoy sitting back and just enjoying life. Lastly I chose independent because I like to do things on my own for the most part, I like the satisfaction of knowing I’m the one who accomplished whatever the task at hand was.

When I first started thinking about becoming an educator I thought I would keep every part of my digital identity private but as more people in my age group become teachers I see how important it is to share some of your experiences with the world and how it helps your kids relate to you more. I think I will keep most of my internet identity private but share things I’ve seen or come across on my social sites that will help them be more comfortable in my class. I know I will have to tone down or find ways to block my future students from my social pages but I want them to know I am still a person and I enjoy the same things everybody else does. Luckily I’m not that big on posting on my social accounts anyway, so there will not be too many changes to make there. Hopefully I can make my internet identity be shown in a happy positive way incase I do happen to share more than originally planned or someone stumbles across it.

You definitely can have multiple identities online because everyone has different sides to themselves and not everyone is meant to see every side. I show little glimpses of my student to teacher process but I think for the most part I will keep all identities separate.

What is text?

To me text is an expression of one’s self. Text can be used to say something meaningful, make someone feel safe, or give a description. In my classroom I hope my kids feel free to express how their feeling in words and in different types of ways. They could expressive themselves in different words, fonts, sizes, or styles. The pictures I used are examples of text because the first picture is a description of a building to show why it is meaningful to Charleston. The second picture is a sticker with text used to express concern about drug use in the community. The third picture is simple an emergency sign in white wording on an orange background in bold lettering. That is an example of text because it uses different styles to express the meaning of the word by how it is presented. My last picture is a flag with the word welcome. It is text in my opinion because it expresses a sense of warmth to the people they want to come in.
